WELCOME ADDRESS AND BRIEF ON THE DEPARTMENT OF CROP PRODUCTION
OPENING: On behalf of the entire staff and students of the Depaerment of Crop Production, it is my honour and privilege to welcome you to the Website of the
Department of Crop Production , College of Agricultural Sciences, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria.

FACILITIES:
The Department research facilities are considered adequate and indeed offer good opportunities across a wide field of Crop Production spectrum. The Department provides opportunities for rigorous and focused research training for both students and academic staff within the wider context of the College of Agricultural Sciences.
Some of the available equipment and materials include student microscopes, research microscopes, dissecting microscopes, analytical balances, top loading balances, kjedhal equipment, pH meters, insect boxes, prepared slides, overhead projector, drawing equipment, inoculating chambers, autoclaves e.t.c. Other services offered by the laboratory include preparation of audio-visual aids for seminars and publications. For courses taught in the Department, the Agricultural biology laboratory provides facilities for research and training.
The Department operates on the 60 hectares farm at Ayetoro where a crop collection garden, research projects for teaching and a commercial farm are located. Plans are underway to develop a permanent teaching and research farm on a 3000 hectares farm donated to the College on Imasayi-Ayetoro road by the Ayetoro community.
RESEARCH PROGRAM:
Research activities in the Department include the post graduate programme in Crop Production which stresses flexibility to meet interests of individual student within the context of building competence in the different areas of Crop Production.
The programmes will equip the recipients with a comprehensive knowledge and skill in crop production fields to be able to manage crop production enterprises and conserve renewable resources on sustainable basis. This would be achieved by training candidates to the Postgraduate Diploma, M.Sc and Ph.D levels.

Also, there is a Departmental research/project currently going on which involves inter-disciplinary approach in solving cassava, sugar cane, maize and cowpea, Teak production constraints in Ogun State and Nigeria in particular. The programme has collaborative links with national and international research centres such as NCRI, IAR&T, Ogun State Cassava Revolution Project, ADPs and other Universities.
